Druze mayor kills man in self defense

Sliman Amar, the mayor of Julis, a Druze town in northern Israel, is suspected of shooting and killing a man who attempted to assault him on Monday.

According to an initial reports, Amar, the regional council head, shot the man who physically assaulted him and attacked him with a sharp object outside the town hall.

The shooting appears to be an act of self-defense.

Witnesses say the victim, a contractor in his 50s, was arguing with Amar about work related issues, and that the two had argued in the past.

Medical teams were alerted to the scene, but were forced to pronounce the victim dead.
