During Germany trip, Jordanian queen compares Israel to Nazi Germany

Jordan’s Queen Rania compared post-Oct. 7 Israel to Nazi Germany, claiming Israel’s defense minister laid the groundwork for the genocide of Gazans.

The queen of Jordan equated Israel’s leadership after the Gaza invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023, to Nazi Germany during a recent speaking engagement in Germany.

On Monday, Queen Rania addressed the One Young World Summit in Munich, warning of the dangers of incitement and dehumanizing speech, which she said has often served throughout history as a “prelude” to mass murder and genocide.

“To dismiss it as ‘just talk’ is to ignore how every genocide has begun: with words,” Queen Rania said, invoking the legacy of the Nazi Holocaust, the genocide in Rwanda in the 1990s, and other mass killings. “Dehumanizing speech has served as the prelude to some of the worst chapters in human history.”

“In the 1930s in this very city, the Nazi Party called Jewish people vermin. In Rwanda, public radio broadcasts described the Tutsis as cockroaches. In Myanmar, nationalists compared the Rohingya to stray dogs.”

The Jordanian monarch then compared Israel’s response to the Hamas invasion in 2023 to past cases of genocide, accusing a senior Israeli security official of creating an environment which encouraged violence against Arabs.

“In the aftermath of the Oct. 7 attacks, when an Israeli official announced a complete siege on Gaza, he described the population as ‘human animals.’ He was operating from a time-tested playbook: Convince the public you are dealing with beasts, and violence becomes not just acceptable, but necessary.”

The quote was a reference to comments made on Oct. 9 by then-Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant (Likud) after he ordered a “complete siege” be imposed on Gaza.

“We are fighting against human animals, and we are acting accordingly,” Gallant said, in reference to Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip.
