‘F—ing Jews’ — Crazed antisemite attacks 3 in Brooklyn

A Brooklyn assault is being investigated as a hate crime after a suspect violently attacked Jewish men while screaming slurs at them.

A man wearing a T-shirt bearing the Iranian flag carried out an unprovoked assault on three Jewish men in the heavily Orthodox Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn on Friday before being detained by a local Jewish security group and later arrested by police.

The suspect, identified by media reports as Andrzej Wnuk, 41, attacked three visibly observant Jewish men, punching them in the head, shoulders, and back.

Witnesses said Wnuk shouted “f—ing Jews” during the assault, underscoring the antisemitic nature of the attack.

Members of Williamsburg Shomrim, a volunteer Jewish neighborhood watch group, intervened and detained Wnuk until officers from the New York Police Department arrived at the scene.

According to court records, Wnuk was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court, where bail was set at $5,000. He faces charges including hate crime assault and several additional offenses, according to reports.

The incident is the latest in a string of attacks targeting Jewish residents of New York City, which has seen a significant rise in antisemitic incidents in recent years.

The surge follows the October 7 Hamas-led massacre in southern Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza.

New York City is home to the largest Jewish population of any city in the world, yet the community has faced repeated acts of violence and harassment.

Data from the New York Police Department indicate that more than half of all reported hate crimes in the city — approximately 57% — target Jewish individuals or institutions.

In January 2024, the Anti-Defamation League reported a sharp spike in antisemitic incidents across the United States, noting a roughly 350% increase in the immediate aftermath of the October 7 terror attacks.

“The American Jewish community is facing a threat level that’s now unprecedented in modern history,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League. “It’s shocking that we’ve recorded more antisemitic acts in three months than we usually would in an entire year.”
