False rocket alarm sounded near Gaza border

As tensions in Gaza have somewhat escalated over the last two months, a rocket alarm was sounded near the Gaza border in what was eventually determined to be a false alarm. 

Rocket sirens went off Sunday morning in the territory belonging to the Eshkol Regional Council in southern Israel, along the border with the Gaza Strip, in what the IDF eventually determined was a false alarm.

The IDF did not say whether anything had been discovered to have caused the warning system to go off, but the incident is under investigation.

Typically, when the IDF confirms the alarm to be authentic, it conducts a military response, as occurred approximately a month and a half ago in response to rocket fire.

“The IDF holds Hamas responsible for all attacks at Israel from the Gaza Strip,” an IDF spokesman stated at the time.

While Israel threatens a reaction to every rocket attack launched from the Gaza Strip, the Hamas terrorist organization in control of the territory recently threatened retaliation against Israel in response to the assassination of one of its military leaders.

“We will make the enemy regret the day that it thought it could start to carry out assassinations,” the al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing, stated at the time.

Hamas also executed three individuals suspected of collaborating with Israel in the assassination.

Hamas recently unveiled a new, allegedly more pragmatic political program aimed at ending the group’s international isolation. US Lt.-Col. Oliver North, however, warned that to believe Hamas truly has become moderate “isn’t just gullible, it’s willful suspension of disbelief.”
