First case of Zika Virus discovered in Israel

Israeli officials say that the chances of the virus spreading at this time are slim, and that there is no need for further alarm.

The first case of a patient with Zika Virus has emerged in Israel, Israeli officials said on Sunday.

The first Israeli Zika patient, a resident of the Eshkol Region in the south, has recently returned from a trip to Costa Rica, where he is believed to have contracted the illness. He is said to be recuperating.

Israeli officials say that the chances of the virus spreading at this time are slim, and that there is no need for further alarm.

One of the reasons is that the mosquito that carries the virus does not exist in the region.
