Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and longtime ally of President Donald Trump, has been hospitalized in critical but stable condition, his spokesman said Sunday.

Ted Goodman, Giuliani’s spokesman, did not disclose what led to the hospitalization, how long Giuliani has been in the hospital, or his prognosis. Giuliani is 81.

“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter,” Goodman said, adding that he was facing the health crisis “with unwavering strength.”

Giuliani appeared on his online show Friday night from Palm Beach, Florida, where he coughed and told viewers his voice was “a little under the weather.”

He was admitted to an emergency room over the weekend and is currently being treated in an intensive care unit.

On Sunday, the former mayor was hooked up to a ventilator after he suffered severe respiratory issues, a source close to Giuliani said, according to a report by Newsmax.

Trump posted about Giuliani’s hospitalization Sunday on his Truth Social account.

“Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition,” Trump wrote. “What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING! They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!”

Former Mayor Eric Adams wished Giuliani a speedy recovery in a post to his X account.

“Mayor Rudy Giuliani devoted his life to this city, from his days as a federal prosecutor to leading New York through 9/11. He was there when we needed him most,” Adams wrote. “I’m praying for Rudy and his family and hoping for a full recovery.”

Giuliani served as New York City mayor from 1994 to 2001 and became nationally known for his leadership after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

In recent years, he became one of Trump’s most prominent legal and political defenders, including in efforts to challenge the 2020 election results. Those efforts later led to criminal charges in two states and a major defamation judgment against him. Giuliani has denied wrongdoing.

The cause of his current hospitalization has not been publicized.
