Freed hostage Eitan Mor was nearly killed for stealing bread

Eitan suffered periods of extreme hunger, during which he received only a few spoonfuls of rice daily.

Tzvika Mor, father of Hamas captivity survivor Eitan Mor, revealed new details regarding his son’s ordeal during an interview on Sunday by Israel’s Kan Reshet Bet public radio.

Eitan was held in isolation for a year following his abduction by terrorists on Oct. 7, 2023, according to his father.

Over his roughly two years in Gaza, Eitan was transferred between approximately 40 different hiding places—all in Gaza City, some above and some below ground.

His son suffered periods of extreme hunger, during which he received only a few spoonfuls of rice daily, said Mor.

In one incident, he recalled, Eitan managed to steal pita bread—but suffered brutally violent punishment.

“The terrorist holding him beat him severely,” said Mor, “and the one who rescued him was actually that terrorist’s wife, who screamed at her husband to stop beating him.”

Tzvi Mor is a member of the Tikva Forum, one of the organizations representing the hostages’ families, and was among the most vocal opponents of phased release deals.

He sent a letter to Mossad chief David Barnea declaring, “A decision to release thousands of murderous terrorists has implications for the safety of millions of citizens.”

He also addressed the prime minister, writing, “We are not willing to accept a deal in parts, not willing to accept selection among Jews after the Holocaust. We demand that the prime minister act through security forces to compel Hamas to return all the hostages at once.”

Family members of the freed survivors are gradually revealing the horrors their loved ones went through in Gaza.

Tami Braslavski, mother of captivity survivor Rom Braslavski, told reporters at Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer in Ramat Gan, where he is being treated, that Rom was held alone for two years. For part of that time, he was held with hostages’ corpses, she said.
