Gal Gadot and husband Yaron Varsano have announced the first project of their new production company Pilot Wave, Deadline reported on Friday. Gadot will also star in the film.

The film, tentatively titled Irena Sendler, tells the story of a Polish social worker and nurse who saved Jewish children in Nazi-occupied Poland.

Sendler smuggled Jewish children out of the Warsaw Ghetto and provided them with false identity papers and places to hide, such as Catholic convents.

The Germans suspected Sendler and arrested her, but she succeeded in hiding the lists of the names and locations of the rescued Jewish children. Withstanding torture, she revealed nothing to her captors who sentenced to die. Sendler managed to escape on the day of her execution.

In 1965, Israel recognized Sendler as Righteous Among the Nations, an honor given to non-Jews by the State of Israel who risked their lives during the Holocaust to save Jews.

“As producers, we want to help bring stories that have inspired us to life,” Gadot and Varsano said, according to Deadline. “Pilot Wave will create content that promotes the perspectives and experiences of unique people and produce impactful stories aimed at igniting the imagination.”

Deadline reports that Justine Juel Gillmer will write the screenplay. She had written a previous Holocaust film, Harry Haft.

Varsano will produce together with Marc Platt. Varsano worked previously as a successful real estate developer in Israel.

Gadot will also executive produce and star in a limited series about Jewish actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr for Showtime. That project was announced in August.
