“Nine trucks carrying state-of-the-art equipment” passed through the Kerem Shalom crossing on Tuesday into the Gaza Strip for a “field hospital which is being funded by private American money and has been approved by the Israeli government,” reports Ynet.

It is part of the indirect understandings between Israel and Hamas, the terror group which rules the Strip, which were negotiated and have been implemented through the efforts of Egyptian and Qatari officials, reached in an effort to stop, at least for now, the massive rocket attacks from Gaza into Israel.

The understandings “have been proceeding and developing despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s warnings that a significant military operation against Hamas is imminent,” says the news outlet.

Egypt and Qatar “are helped by additional international players to advance these understandings,” according to the report.

“The establishment of an internationally-run field hospital was a major subject of discussions,” it adds, saying that the hospital’s construction, located in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, “is in its operational stages.”

The facility is expected to house 16 medical departments, providing treatment that until now has required patients to travel outside Gaza.

Qatari deputy envoy Khaled al-Hardan arrived on Tuesday in Gaza and was said to be holding meetings with Israeli security officials, according to Ynet.

His visit was expected to focus on the construction of a new supply line to increase the amount of electricity provided from Israel to Gaza. Palestinians in the Strip have been suffering from shortages.

Funding for the new supply line is to come from international sources, according to the report.

A monthly installment of Qatari aid “to those most in need in the Gazan population” is to be delivered on Thursday with 50,000 families due to receive $100 each, reports Ynet.

A challenge facing Israeli authorities has been to ensure that the monies truly go to needy people and not terrorists.
