Gazans outraged as families of Hamas leaders escape to foreign countries for safety

There is gowing resentment among Gazans over reports that family members of senior Hamas leaders quietly fled the territory to safe areas in the early days of the war.

According to local sources cited by Ynet, relatives of top figures — including Yahya Sinwar and his brother Muhammad — were smuggled out of Gaza through the Rafah crossing with forged documents, logistical coordination, and financial resources far beyond the reach of most civilians.

The news triggered outrage among Gazans who feel abandoned by their leaders, saying they clearly sought a more comfortable existence than the average civilian.

One of the most high-profile cases involves Samar Abu Zamer, the widow of Hamas military chief Yahya Sinwar. Initially believed to have gone into hiding in tunnels, she is now reported to be living in Turkey with her children after allegedly crossing the border using a fake passport.

A local source claimed the operation “required high-level coordination and a lot of money regular people don’t have.”

Abu Zamer is also said to have remarried in Turkey in a match arranged by senior Hamas official Fathi Hammad, further fueling accusations of hypocrisy among the movement’s leadership.

Similar reports surround Najwa Sinwar, the wife of Muhammad Sinwar, who is also believed to have left Gaza with her children before Israeli forces killed her husband.

Israeli defense officials confirmed both women exited the enclave prior to their husbands’ deaths.

The reports have struck a nerve in Gaza, who face displacement, meager supplies of food and regular airstrikes. “They send their children to Turkey and Qatar while ours die in the streets,” said one angry resident.

One notable exception is Umm Khaled, the wife of Hamas commander Mohammed Deif, who appeared in a recent video staying in Gaza with her children. “I’m not fleeing. I’m here with my people,” she said.
