German police arrest fifth suspect in local Hamas terror network

Mohammad S. allegedly procured 300 rounds of ammunition to be used in attacks on Jewish and Israeli institutions.

German police arrested on Friday a Lebanese national at Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport after he arrived on a flight from Beirut, on suspicion of being a fifth member of a local Hamas terror network.

Prosecutors said the 36-year-old man, identified only as “Mohammad S.,” helped purchase 300 rounds of live ammunition last August and was planning to assist at least three other foreign operatives of Hamas attack Jewish and Israeli targets in Europe.

Two of the alleged accomplices were German citizens in their 30s and 40s of Lebanese and Syrian origin, while the third, Wael F.M., is a 43-year-old Lebanese national.

All three were arrested in October during a weapons handover in Berlin.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office said at the time that the suspects were arrested while in possession of an AK-47 assault rifle and several pistols, along with a “considerable amount” of ammunition.

“The weapons were to be used by Hamas for deadly attacks targeting Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany,” it said.

Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the group had “prepared detailed attack plans in Germany” and described the threat as “concrete.”

Police simultaneously raided properties in Leipzig and Oberhausen during the October arrests.

Hamas denied any connection to the suspects, claiming the allegations were meant to “tarnish the reputation of the movement and undermine the sympathy of the German people for our Palestinian people.”

In November, a fourth suspected accomplice, Borhan El-K., another Lebanese national, was arrested while entering Germany by road from the Czech Republic.

According to German media, prosecutors alleged that he was the one who acquired in August 2025 a fully automatic rifle, eight pistols, and more than 600 rounds of ammunition in Germany and gave them to one of the Berlin-based operatives.

The investigation has since expanded across several countries.

El-K. allegedly purchased weapons from organized crime groups in Scandinavia.

Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, said Wael F.M. and one of the German suspects, Abed al-G., were in contact with a figure considered a major player in Scandinavian Arab organized crime.

After el-K.’s arrest, Danish police searched his home in Copenhagen as well as that of another suspect, and Austrian police discovered a weapons cache holding five handguns and 10 magazines in Vienna that were allegedly linked to the network.
