Go Fund Me terminates fundraiser for Kirk murder suspect

Meanwhile, legitimate memorial campaigns raised over $3 million across GoFundMe and GiveSendGo platforms.

While millions poured into memorial funds for Charlie Kirk’s family following his assassination, GoFundMe moved quickly to shut down any attempt to raise money for his suspected killer’s legal defense.

A fundraising page for Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old Utah man charged with Kirk’s murder, appeared on the platform shortly after his arrest Friday.

The campaign, which listed Robinson as the organizer though his actual involvement remains unclear, claimed he “did what the Democrats told him to do” and sought donations for legal expenses.

GoFundMe removed the page within hours after users flagged it on social media.

“Our Terms of Service explicitly prohibit fundraisers for the legal defense of a violent crime,” the company wrote on X.

“Any attempted fundraisers for the suspected shooter will be swiftly removed from the platform and fully refunded. Our hearts go out to the Kirk family and everyone impacted by this tragedy.

Robinson was reportedly arrested after a family member contacted authorities through an intermediary.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox said that the suspect had been charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice. Formal charges are expected Tuesday.

Investigators are still piecing together the motives behind the shooting, but relatives of Robinson tell investigators he had become more political in recent years, with one family dinner turning heated when he directed his anger at Kirk, Cox noted.

While searching for the suspect, the FBI recovered a bolt-action rifle wrapped in a towel from woods near the campus where Kirk was shot.

Bullet casings contained inscriptions referencing anti-fascism, internet memes, and video games, according to authorities.

Meanwhile, legitimate memorial campaigns raised over $3 million across GoFundMe and GiveSendGo platforms.

Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson has organized one campaign through his tobacco company Alp Pouches, setting a $5 million goal. As of this report, it had collected nearly $3.5 million.

GoFundMe has promised to verify all campaigns honoring Kirk to ensure funds reach intended beneficiaries.

“At GoFundMe, being a safe and trusted place to give and receive help is our top priority,” a spokesperson told FOX News.

“Our team is swiftly reviewing each fundraiser related to this horrific shooting to ensure they are verified and that funds are safely delivered to the intended beneficiaries.”
