Hamas announces planned return of hostage body to Israel after claiming it located the remains of a slain IDF soldier in a neighborhood of Gaza City under IDF control.

The Hamas terror organization announced Tuesday morning that it has located the remains of a slain Israeli hostage, and is preparing to transfer the body to Israel.
In a statement released via the Telegram account of the terror group’s military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas said that the body was recovered from the Shujaiya neighborhood of eastern Gaza City, an area on the Israeli side of the Yellow Line that divides the Gaza Strip.
Hamas claimed the body belonged to a slain IDF soldier.
“The al-Qassam Brigades announced today that they have found the body of one of the slain Israeli soldiers east of the Shuja’iyya neighborhood during ongoing search and excavation operations inside the Yellow Line, and that arrangements are being made to hand it over to Israel.”
The terror group added that the body was recovered during a joint search operation with the International Committee of the Red Cross.
“We affirm that the entry of engineering equipment and the accompaniment of al-Qassam Brigades teams with the Red Cross during the search operations for bodies inside the Yellow Line greatly contributed to the speed of the recovery efforts and led to the discovery of many bodies.”
Earlier this week, Israel permitted Hamas terrorists to cross the Yellow Line in Gaza City to escort Red Cross search teams in Shuja’iyya, as part of the effort to recover the remaining hostages.
There are still eight slain captives whose bodies remain in the Gaza Strip, including several Israeli security personnel.
They include Itay Chen, a 19-year-old American-Israeli dual citizen who was murdered on October 7, 2023; Hadar Goldin, a 23-year-old IDF soldier killed during the 2014 Gaza war; and Ran Gvili, a 24-year-old officer in the police department’s Yasam unit.
