Hamas documents reveal direct coordination with Al-Jazeera during Gaza war

Documents recovered in Gaza show extensive collaboration between Hamas and the Qatari-owned Al-Jazeera network, with evidence that the group used the channel as part of its propaganda and psychological warfare campaign during the war, according to new findings by the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center.

The material, seized by Israeli forces, details how Hamas maintained direct contact with Al-Jazeera editors and correspondents, issuing instructions on how to present coverage to preserve what the group called the “resistance image.”

The documents reportedly show that Hamas not only advised on news content but also dictated how stories should be framed and broadcast.

Investigators said Hamas established a dedicated “Al-Jazeera phone” — a secure communication line linking its command center in Gaza with the network’s offices in Doha.

The line was allegedly used to guide live coverage, direct the release of specific information, and conceal other details, all in line with Hamas’ objectives.

The findings suggest that Al-Jazeera served as more than a media outlet, acting as what analysts described as a “central component” in Hamas’ psychological and propaganda operations.

The study notes that this cooperation continued throughout the war, helping shape the international perception of the fighting in Gaza.

Among those cited in the documents is Anas al-Sharif, identified as a member of Hamas’ East Jabaliya Battalion and commander of a long-range shooting unit.

Al-Sharif, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike, was listed as both a correspondent for Al-Jazeera and an active Hamas fighter. Other reporters affiliated with the network were also found to have taken part in attacks targeting Israeli troops and civilians, according to the report.

Israeli officials have long accused Al-Jazeera of serving as a mouthpiece for Hamas — charges the network has denied — but the newly revealed documents appear to provide direct evidence of operational coordination between the two.
