A Hamas terrorist from the Gaza Strip was charged on Sunday in the Beersheva District Court on 18 counts of serious crimes against state security.

According to the charges, the defendant, Madhat Abu Sneimeh, 24, who joined Hamas in 2007, and other Hamas terrorists monitored IDF movements on the border with Gaza and placed explosive devices targeting IDF military vehicles on patrol.

After the conclusion of Operation Pillar of Defense in 2012, the Hamas cell fired missiles at an IDF outpost, and mortar shells at the Kerem Shalom crossing. No one was injured in these attacks.

He also participated in Hamas’ military training, received weapons training and went through a snipers course.

The indictment also reveals that the Hamas terrorist also partially owned a smuggling tunnel that ran into Egypt, a partnership he joined at the investment of $7,000. Through this tunnel he and his associates smuggled military uniforms for Hamas’ naval commando unit, along with arms and ammunition. He received two thousand dollars a month for his efforts.

Egyptian security forces eventually flooded the tunnel with water and destroyed it, as part of a broader campaign to destroy Hamas’ smuggling network between the Sinai Peninsula and the Strip.

Abu Sneimeh, who was arrested last month, was charged with contact with a foreign agent, conspiring to commit a crime, attempted murder, providing the enemy with intelligence, partaking in illegal military training, membership in an illegal organization, weapons offenses and more.
