Hamas threatened Tuesday to retaliate against Israel for an incident in which two of its operatives were killed by the IDF during an exchange of fire on the border.

Hamas snipers had fired shots towards IDF soldiers near the northern Gaza Strip from a Hamas post.

In response, an IDF tank targeted the post from where the shots were fired. No injuries to IDF troops were reported.

Mujahideen Ahmed Morjan and Abdel Hafez Al-Silawi were killed by the tank fire.

Spokesman Fawzi Barhoum stated that Hamas “views the Occupation’s (Israel’s) deliberate attack of the al-Qassam Brigades’ outpost, which caused the death of two fighters, very gravely.”

“Israel is responsible for the escalation. The resistance will not accept a policy of attacking its positions and fighters without Israel paying the price,” he added.

Civilian security officers have advised Israeli residents in communities surrounding the northern Gaza Strip to remain close to their bomb shelters in case of a Hamas reprisal attack.

This incident occurred amid reports that Hamas is approaching an agreement with Fatah, through the UN and Egypt, which would include the cessation of attacks on Israel, including the launching of fire kites and explosive balloons.
