Hamas will not stop individual attacks on Israel, terror group says

Hamas has rejected any request by mediators to prevent such attacks, even if it is not currently initiating acts of violence on the Gazan-Israeli border.

Amid reports that Iran is helping Hamas bolster its terror activities in Judea and Samaria, an Arabic news outlet is reporting that Hamas is not stopping unauthorized attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip.

Hamas has ruled Gaza since it overthrew the Palestinian Authority (PA) in 2007. The efforts to strengthen in Judea and Samaria are aimed at destabilizing the PA there as well.

Israeli troops on Monday arrested an armed Palestinian man attempting to infiltrate into Israel from the Gaza Strip, according to the Israel Defense Forces. It marked the third time in a single week that Israeli forces had thwarted attempted incursions from the coastal enclave.

According to Al-Akhbar, an Arabic daily based in Beirut, Hamas has rejected any request by mediators to prevent such attacks, even if it is not currently initiating acts of violence on the Gazan-Israeli border.

In the report, cited by The Jerusalem Post, Hamas sources assert that an inquiry conducted within the terror organization has shown that “last three operations were carried out by members of the military wing of the movement who planned the attacks themselves on the spot and without instructions from the military and political leadership of the movement.”

Muslims have been marking the Eid Al Adha festival this week. Hamas reportedly called off any official protest along the border last Friday in deference to preparations for the holiday.

Since March 2018, continuing violent protests have been taking place at the border on the Muslim Sabbath.

Palestinian Authority security sources say that a single thread connects recent violence against Israel, including the killing of Jewish student Dvir Sorek in Judea, Tisha B’Av riots on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, and recent attempts by terrorists to infiltrate from the Gaza Strip. That thread is Iran, according to PA sources, Israel Hayom reported on Wednesday.
