IDF braces for possible new wave of terror attacks during holidays

Israel’s security establishment fears the Palestinians will renew their attacks around the upcoming Jewish holidays, and with greater intensity.

The IDF is preparing for the possible renewal of the wave of Palestinian terror attacks against Israelis as the High Holidays marking the Jewish New Year approach and as Israel will mark a year since the outbreak of the year-long wave of Palestinian violence.

Israel has experienced several weeks of relative quiet after several deadly attacks at the end of June and the beginning of July, but the IDF fears the Palestinians will renew their attacks around the pending Jewish holidays, and with greater intensity.

Most of the terror attacks carried out in the past year were committed by individuals who were not affiliated with or supported by a terrorist organization, using knives, axes, cars and other such weapons and not firearms.

According to a report in Israel’s NRG new site on Sunday, The IDF estimates that the next wave of attacks will be carried out by organizations using firearms and explosives, and therefore is potentially considerably more lethal.

The IDF, in the past months, has been focusing its efforts to shut down the Palestinian network that manufactures and distributes makeshift weapons.

Since the beginning of 2016, Israeli forces have shut down 29 weapons production plants in the Judea and Samaria regions and have seized 49 machines and over 300 weapons.

Israeli forces have arrested more than 140 suspects tied to the production and selling of illegal weapons, used in many cases against Israel’s civilians.

The IDF high command and its intelligence branch will closely monitor the developments on the ground in the coming weeks with the hope of meeting any new outbreak of Palestinian violence in a swift and forceful manner.
