IDF bombs terrorist positions in Gaza, killing 10, after Hamas violates Gaza ceasefire with ambush attack leaving Israeli officer seriously wounded.
By World Israel News Staff
An Israeli officer serving reserve duty in the northern Gaza Strip was seriously wounded in a Hamas ambush attack targeting an IDF force, the Israeli military announced Wednesday morning.
The attack occurred before dawn Wednesday, while forces from the IDF’s Alexandroni Brigade operated on the Israeli side of the ceasefire line inside the Old City of Gaza.
Hamas terrorists hiding in the area opened fire on an IDF force, wounding a reserve officer, who was evacuated to a hospital inside Israel.
Immediately after the shooting attack, the IDF responded with tank fire on the position the terrorists opened fire from, while at the same time carrying out aerial strikes in the area.
The Hamas attack was carried out in spite of and in direct violation of the October truce, the IDF said.
“This constitutes a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement,” an army spokesperson said.
The incident reportedly occurred in the Tuffah quarter on the northeastern side of the Old City of Gaza, near the Muslim cemetery where the remains of the last hostage held in Gaza, Ran Gvili, were recently found.
In contrast to most neighborhoods on the Israeli side of the ceasefire line, the Tuffah quarter still has a number of buildings standing intact.
The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry claimed Wednesday that 10 people were killed during the ensuing battle and in subsequent IDF strikes.
Four of the fatalities were reported in Tuffah and are said to have resulted from the gun battle sparked by the Hamas attack, with three more deaths in Gaza City, specifically in the Zeitoun neighborhood, resulting from artillery fire.
The three additional fatalities occurred in the Khan Younis district in southern Gaza, and also resulted from artillery fire.
