The military named the deceased Armored Corps reservist from the 71st Battalion as Sgt. First Class Yinon Fleischman, 31, from Jerusalem. His family was notified and the burial was scheduled for 2 p.m. at Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem.
According to an update from the Galilee Medical Center, another soldier, aged 33, was in critical condition; a third soldier, 28, was in moderation condition; and a fourth soldier, 26, was lightly injured.
Head of the Efrat Regional Council Oded Revivi, where Fleischman was originally from, updated the community that he “fell while fulfilling his duty on the northern border.” Revivi said that he is survived by his wife Noa and infant son Ziv, as well as his parents and five siblings.
The military said that it was investigating the incident, which occurred near Rosh Hanikra close to the border with Lebanon, where cross-border clashes with Hezbollah terrorists have been occurring on a daily basis since Israel declared war on Hamas following the terrorist group’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
Sirens were heard in communities surrounding the Gaza Strip on Monday morning, with reports of between 30 to 40 rockets fired at the western Negev city of Netivot. At least two direct impacts were reported in Netivot, with no injuries. Video footage circulating on social media showed Iron Dome interceptions over the city and a destroyed apartment.
Meanwhile, Israel’s ground operations in Gaza continue to expand. Overnight, IDF troops clashed with terrorists in the Hamas-ruled territory.
Israeli forces killed “dozens” of terrorists, who had barricaded themselves in buildings and tunnels and attempted to attack troops, according to the IDF.
An Israeli aircraft guided by troops on the ground struck a Hamas staging post inside a building, with over 20 Hamas operatives inside.
According to the Israeli military more than 600 terror targets in Gaza had been struck in recent days, including weapons depots, anti-tank missile launching positions, hideouts and staging grounds.
IDF forces operating in Gaza overnight also struck armed terrorists and an anti-tank missile launching post in the area of Al-Azhar University, according to the military.
The expanded ground activities in northern Gaza represent the second phase of the IDF’s war to eliminate Hamas as a military and political force in the Gaza Strip.
On Oct. 7, Hamas terrorists killed 1,400 people, wounded over 5,000 and took more than 200 back to Gaza as hostages.
According to the IDF, the families of 239 people have been notified that their loved ones are still being held in Gaza by Hamas.
The Israeli Health Ministry reported that as of Oct. 25, 267 victims of the massacre remained hospitalized
