IDF working to shield US forces from Iranian attacks – report

According to the report, the US and Israel have been impressed by each other’s capabilities.

The Israeli military is actively working to protect American forces stationed in the Middle East from Iranian missile attacks, Israel Hayom reported over the weekend, with Israeli Air Force jets dispatched to strike Iranian launch sites threatening US bases.

According to the report, the Israeli military and US Central Command have closely coordinated throughout the war, dividing missions based on which of the two countries is better positioned to execute them, not just on whose assets are threatened.

That includes cases where Israeli aircraft strike missile launchers aimed at US bases and assets, and cases where US aircraft target launchers threatening Israel. The report also says Israeli and American intelligence are sometimes used interchangeably to cue each other’s strikes.

The efforts to locate and destroy Iran’s missile launchers and factories have been complicated in part by the mountainous terrain in northeastern Iran, where much of the Islamic Republic’s production facilities are located, along with a number of launchers.

This is not the first time the US and Israeli militaries have cooperated closely to blunt Iranian attacks.

However, in previous instances, the joint efforts were focused on shielding Israel from Iranian strikes, including attacks in April and October of 2024 and June of 2025.

Now, with US military bases and diplomatic facilities across the Middle East coming under attack, the cooperation between the two countries is aimed at protecting American assets as well as Israel.

The report added that each side has been impressed by the capabilities of the other, with one Israeli source lauding what he described as the US military’s seemingly “infinite” power.

“You can see this is a superpower,” he said, adding that the Israeli Air Force has achieved results that have drawn praise from US military officials.
