‘If no deal within 60 days, US to charge Hormuz tolls’ – Trump

Iran says it reclosed Hormuz over Israeli strikes, while CENTCOM insists the passage remains intact.

President Donald Trump threatened that the United States could impose tolls on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz should a permanent peace deal between Washington and Tehran not materialize within the next 60 days.

“There will be NO TOLLS in the Hormuz Strait for 60 days during the Cease Fire Period, and there will be NO TOLLS after the 60 day period has expired, unless they are imposed by and for the United States of America, should the deal not be completed, for services rendered as the Guardian Angel to the countries of the Middle East for purposes of both past, present, and future reimbursement of costs,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.

The president’s warning came amid growing confusion over whether the waterway is fully open, partially restricted, or once again being used by Iran as leverage in the broader regional confrontation.

Iran announced on Wednesday that it had reopened the Strait following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). But on Saturday, Tehran said it had closed the passage again as a punitive measure, saying it was shuttering the waterway due to Israel continued to target Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon. Tehran has argued that this is a violation of the ceasefire framework, while Israel says it is not a party to the agreement.

Iran has claimed that an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon is one of the conditions of the MoU, arguing that the ceasefire outline requires Israel to halt military operations in both Lebanon and Gaza. Tehran said Israel’s continued actions in Lebanon constituted a violation of the agreement and justified its response.

In a statement released Saturday, Iran said it was shutting the Strait because of the “Zionist regime’s continuous and relentless violation of the ceasefire.”

The claim was quickly challenged by the United States. Hours later, U.S. Central Command said in a media statement that the Strait’s opening “remained intact” and that American forces were “present and vigilant” to ensure the safe passage of ships.
