Incendiary balloon lands in Jerusalem suburb

Police were called to the a house in Givat Ze’ev, a Jerusalem suburb, after a Molotov cocktail was found in the yard, attached to a balloon.

Just days after an incendiary balloon was discovered in the Ligad Technology Park in Modi’in in central Israel, a Molotov cocktail tied to a balloon was found in a Jerusalem suburb.

Givat Ze’ev is located five kilometers northwest of the capital, adjacent to several Arab neighborhoods.

“Police were called to the yard of a house in Givat Ze’ev after a Molotov cocktail was found. Police sappers examined the balloon and transferred the findings for further investigation,” Israel Police tweeted late Sunday night.

There was no damage reported.

Police were called to Jerusalem’s Gilo neighborhood in July after two incendiary balloons were found outside a private home.

Since the beginning of violent Hamas-led protests at the Israel-Gaza border, terrorists have been launching incendiary objects, mostly kites and balloons, towards Israeli territory. In one particularly cruel incident, they tied flammable materials to a falcon and sent it over the border.

The Hamas-orchestrated “fire kite” terror has decimated nearly ‎‎10,000 acres of Israeli ‎‎‎forest ‎and farmland on the Israeli ‎side of the ‎‎‎border, causing ‎‎‎millions of dollars in ‎damage to the area.

It is feared that terrorists based in Judea and Samaria may copy this new method of terror, which could also prove deadly.

The police called on the public Monday to exercise extreme caution with regards to suspicious objects such as kites and balloons, which may contain explosives or flammable materials.
