Girls from the Samarian settlement of Itamar spent Wednesday in Israel’s hot sun distributing drinks of water to hitchhikers. This was done in memory of someone they most likely did not know.

Eighteen-year-old Eliyahu Asheri was murdered on June 25, 2006. He was kidnapped by Palestinian terrorists from the Popular Resistance Committees as he hitchhiked home from visiting a friend.

The terrorists declared that he would be “butchered in front of TV cameras” if Israel did not suspend its Operation Summer Rains in the Gaza Strip. This mission was in response to the kidnapping of Israel Defense Force corporal Gilad Shalit.

Soon after, the terrorists announced they had slain Asheri.

Arutz 7 reported that before shooting Asheri to death, the terrorists asked if he had a last request. He requested a cup of water on which he made the blessing with great intent, “Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, by Whose word all things came to be.”

Asheri was then immediately shot to death.

On the anniversary of his murder, girls chose to honor his courage and memory by distributing water at a hitchhiking stations at Tapuah junction in Samaria that Asheri’s parents had dedicated in his memory in 2016..
