Iran blinds man for blinding girl

Iran literally acted on its eye-for-an-eye sharia law of retribution when it blinded a man for blinding a young girl after he threw acid in her face.

Iranian authorities on Tuesday blinded a man to punish him for attacking a four-year-old girl in 2009 and throwing chemicals in her face, thus blinding her.

The Fars news agency reported that the punishment was only the second time the Islamic Republic has implemented the “eye for an eye” legal provision, which was approved in 1958.

In March 2015, a man convicted of blinding another man with acid was blinded in one eye in a prison near Tehran.

Iranian law allows for an eye-for-an-eye kind of retribution, but encourages clemency. Victims and their families have the final say in such matters, and can prevent such punishments from being imposed, and have even prevented the executing of death sentences.
