Iranian media reported that Ali Larijani, a close adviser to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, is scheduled to travel to Muscat, the capital of Oman, on Tuesday.
According to the Tasnim News Agency, Larijani will meet with senior Omani officials to discuss “the latest regional and international developments” as well as bilateral cooperation at various levels.
The visit comes as Oman continues to play a central mediating role between Tehran and Washington.
Larijani’s trip follows the first round of indirect U.S.-Iran talks held in Oman on Friday.
After the talks, the Trump administration conveyed to Tehran that it expects the Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, to arrive at the next meeting “with meaningful substance,” two sources told The Jerusalem Post, with Washington seeking concrete nuclear concessions.
Araghchi said the talks were “a good start” but that their continuation depends on consultations in the capitals and the absence of U.S. threats.
Oman’s foreign minister, Badr Albusaidi, described the discussions as “very serious” and said both sides plan to reconvene after further review in Tehran and Washington.
Larijani has held a series of regional meetings in recent weeks, including talks in Tehran with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
His visit to Oman comes as regional contacts continue alongside negotiations between Tehran and Washington, against the backdrop of a U.S. military buildup in the region and repeated warnings from Washington that failure of the talks could lead to war.
