Iranian-linked operative plotted to kill Ivanka Trump

Al-Saadi was arrested in Turkey on May 15 and extradited to the United States.

An Iran-linked Iraqi operative plotted to assassinate Ivanka Trump as revenge for the 2020 US strike that killed Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani, the New York Post reported.

The suspect was identified as Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, an Iraq-based commander tied to Kataib Hezbollah and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

According to the report, Al-Saadi sought to target President Donald Trump’s family directly and had obtained a plan of Ivanka Trump’s Florida home.

Sources cited by the Post said the plot was part of a broader effort to avenge Soleimani, who was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad during Trump’s first term.

Al-Saadi allegedly viewed Soleimani as a mentor and had posted threats online.

Al-Saadi was arrested in Turkey on May 15 and extradited to the United States.

He is now facing terrorism-related charges, reportedly linked not only to the alleged Ivanka Trump plot but also to attacks and attempted attacks against American and Jewish targets in North America and Europe.

The report said Al-Saadi is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

The case adds to a series of alleged Iranian-linked plots targeting current and former US officials and Trump associates since Soleimani’s killing.

US officials have repeatedly said Iran and its proxies have sought retaliation for the strike, including through assassination plots against Trump and senior figures from his first administration.

The allegations come as Washington and Tehran remain locked in tense negotiations over the Iran war, with Trump saying this week that he delayed a planned strike at the request of Gulf leaders while warning that the US military remains ready to act if talks fail.
