Iranians offer condolences, show solidarity with Jewish community after Sydney massacre

“Iranian regime is the root cause of global terror” – Iranians offer support for Israel and Jews worldwide while criticizing their own government amid suspicions Tehran was responsible for the deadly shooting attack at a Sydney Chanukah event.

Amid reports that Israel’s intelligence establishment believes Iran was likely responsible for orchestrating the deadly shooting attack on a Chanukah event in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday, many Iranian social media users have expressed solidarity with Jews and the State of Israel, while in some cases openly criticizing their own government.

Defying the Iranian regime’s restrictions on pro-Israel social media, many users penned posts or published images expressing solidarity with Jews and the State of Israel, with some calling for a “Cyrus Accords” – referring to a proposed peace deal between Israel and a future Iranian government, put forward by opposition figures including Reza Pahlavi, the exiled crown prince of Iran.

Others used the hashtag “IraniansStandWithIsrael.”

“This regime is the root cause of global terror and instability,” one Iranian user wrote of the Islamic republic.

“It’s true, always ‘Islamic Republic’ is behind terrorist attacking against Jews around the world. #IraniansStandWithJews #IraniansStandWithIsrael,” wrote Niyak Ghorbani, an Iranian national living in Britain.

“I’m speechless,” wrote Dr. Amir Shahram Makoui, an Iranian physician and dissident living in California.

“We … Iranian PEOPLE …stand with our Jewish brothers & sisters in Australia & EVERYWHERE in the world … especially in ISRAEL.”

“Condolences and sympathy from us, the people of Iran, to the respected Jewish community
In memory of this song,” wrote a user, identified only by the handle “Rahaee17,” located in Iran.

“The closing credits of the film Golda Meir#IraniansStandWithIsrael.”

“Global security means the downfall of this satanic terrorist regime,” another user wrote. “#IraniansStandWithIsrael.”

A Sydney Jewish community leader told The Times of Israel that Australian authorities are probing possible Iranian involvement in the attack, following reports in Israeli media that Israel’s intelligence establishment is increasingly convinced Iran or Iranian proxies planned the shooting.

Iran condemned the shooting, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei writing on X: “As a matter of principle, Iran condemns the violent attack against civilians in Sydney, Australia.”

“Terror violence and mass killing shall be condemned, wherever they’re committed, as unlawful and criminal.”

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Oren Marmorstein rejected Iran’s condemnation, calling it yet another “deception” by Tehran.

“The world record in deception belongs to Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman. Iran has carried out deadly terrorist attacks against Israelis and Jews in the past and constantly seeks to murder Israelis and Jews around the world.”
