Israel bombs Hamas targets in response to rocket attack

Israel’s Air Force bombed Hamas targets in Gaza in response to an earlier rocket attack on the Jewish state. 

Israel’s Air Force (IAF) bombed Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip on Monday in response to a rocket attack by Gaza-based terrorists on Israel earlier in the day.

The IAF targeted five Hamas positions throughout the Strip, the IDF said in a statement.

“The IDF holds Hamas accountable for any attacks from the Gaza Strip that jeopardize the safety of Israelis and breach Israel’s sovereignty,” IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner stated.

Following the strikes, the head of IDF’s Coordinator for Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), Major General Yoav Mordechai, posted a statement on his page in Arabic which said, “Peace will be met with peace, and fire will be met with a forceful response.”

Mordechai said that the continued unrest on the southern border compels Israel to respond, and while Israel does not seek escalation, it will react to any rocket fire on its territory.

Israel has recently adopted a policy of responding to each and every rocket attack from Gaza, holding the Hamas Islamic terror group, which rules Gaza, responsible for all attacks emanating from its territory.

The strikes were a response to a rocket fired by Palestinian terrorists early Monday morning, which exploded in an open space, causing no casualties or damage.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but a Jihadist group that supports the Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for previous such attacks.

This was the fourth rocket attack on Israel in the past month.
