Israel calls human rights group ‘Amnesty Hamas’ over accusations of deliberate starvation in Gaza

The IDF says it is finding ways to “reduce tension” in aid distribution areas and claims Hamas is deliberately provoking soldiers and aid workers.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry called a British human rights organization “Amnesty Hamas” for accusing Israel’s military of deliberately shooting Gazan civilians at aid distribution sites and of using starvation tactics.

In a post to X, the Foreign Ministry posted images of the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Aid Foundation (GHF) distributing food and supplies to civilians in Gaza and wrote, “Amnesty International has joined forces with Hamas and fully adopted all of its propaganda lies. Its new name now is ‘Amnesty Hamas.'”

Amnesty International, which has frequently been highly critical of Israel and has accused it of committing “genocide’ in the Gaza Strip.

“Israel’s genocide has continued unabated in Gaza, including through the infliction of conditions of life that have created a deadly mix of hunger and disease, pushing the population past breaking point, said Agnès Callamard, Amnesty’s secretary general, in a report.

Palestinian officials have accused Israel of killing 500 Palestinians at or close to aid distribution centers in the past month. However, these numbers have not been verified, nor is there a distinction in the number between terrorists killed and civilians.

Palestinian sources have also accused Israel of firing at Gazans trying to receive aid. However, Israel’s military has insisted its policy is to fire warning shots when crowds get unruly and not use live ammunition.

The report accused Israel of turning “aid-seeking into a booby trap for desperate starved Palestinians.” The conditions have created “a deadly mix of hunger and disease pushing the population past breaking point.”

The IDF says it is finding ways to “reduce tension” in aid distribution areas and claims Hamas is deliberately provoking soldiers and aid workers.

The Foreign Ministry described the amount of aid GHF has brought into Gaza and distributed safely, despite Amnesty International’s claims and wrote, “Israel has facilitated the entry of over 3,000 aid trucks into the Gaza Strip since May 19 and the GHF has delivered boxes of food with the equivalent of 56 million meals.”
