Israel released for publication on Tuesday that its security forces had uncovered and arrested members of a cell recruited online by Hezbollah to carry out terror attacks in Israel.
The Hezbollah cell members arrested by Israel were Palestinian terrorists from Kalkilya, a Palestinian city in Samaria, and who were recruited through Facebook by Hezbollah members living in Lebanon and Gaza. The Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security agency) stated that the arrest of the Palestinians “prevented the terror cells from carrying out attacks in Israel.”
The Shin Bet emphasized that, “In recent years, Hezbollah has been working intensively to recruit members from the West Bank and Gaza in order to carry out terror attacks against Israeli targets. In addition to being tasked with carrying out shooting attacks and suicide bombings against Israeli targets, the members were told to help recruit others.”
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon called on the Security Council to designate Hezbollah a terrorist organization.
“Hezbollah, a proxy of Iran, has not ceased its active aggression against Israel and is endangering stability throughout the Middle East,” said Danon. “The terrorists must know that they will pay a heavy price for any aggression against our citizens.”
“The international community must condemn Hezbollah’s attempts to harm innocent Israeli civilians, and the Security Council must finally designate Hezbollah a terrorist organization,” Danon continued.
