Turkish sources report Orhan Buyruk was suspected of planning to spy against Israel.

Israel on Wednesday expelled a Turkish national for committing unspecified security offenses.

Orhan Buyruk, 32, was arrested late last month at Ben Gurion Airport upon his arrival in Israel.

Turkish sources report he was suspected of planning to spy against Israel, while Israel Radio reported he voiced hostile statements against Israel and threatened its security.

Buyruk had traveled to Israel late last month, supposedly to visit Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque as part of a pilgrimage tour.

Israel Radio quoted an Israeli security source who said that since the Turk’s actions were confined to statements alone, it was decided to return him to his country, rather than press charges.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu tweeted his “best wishes to him and his family” on his return to Turkey.
