Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar inaugurated Israel’s embassy in the Fijian capital of Suva on Tuesday, marking an expansion of Israel’s diplomatic presence in the Pacific.

Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka described the opening as a turning point in bilateral relations.

“The physical presence of the new embassy will have enormous significance. This is the beginning of a golden age between the countries,” he said.

He added that the relationship “is not just symbolic or historical, but dynamic, adapting to today’s realities and future challenges.”

Sa’ar praised Fiji’s consistent support for Israel in international forums, including its intervention on Israel’s behalf at International Court of Justice hearings in The Hague.

He also welcomed Rabuka’s decision to establish a Fijian embassy in Jerusalem, saying it “laid a stone in the ancient walls of Jerusalem in the living history of Jerusalem.”

Addressing security concerns in the Middle East, Rabuka said Israel has legitimate security needs and “the sovereign right to protect its citizens from terrorism and threats to its existence.”

Sa’ar held talks with Fijian President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, Foreign Minister Sakiasi Ditoka, and other senior officials.

The two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding on diplomatic training and a declaration of intent on national security cooperation.

Rabuka inaugurated Fiji’s embassy in Jerusalem in September 2025.
