Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used social media to inform the “good and decent” people of Iran that Israel wants to help them deal with their severe water shortage.
“Millions of Iranian children are suffering due to mismanagement, to incompetence, and the theft of vital resources by the Iranian regime,” he said, also noting that according to Iran’s own former agriculture minister, 50 million Iranians could be forced out of their homes due to environmental damage.
Netanyahu explained that Israel has established a website in Farsi that will show “detailed plans” to teach Iranians how to recycle water and use drip irrigation and other Israeli water technology to face the challenge.
“The Iranian regime shouts, ‘Death to Israel!’” he said. “In response, Israel shouts, “Life to the Iranian people!” he stated.
Sharona Avginesaz, director of the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s digital media in Farsi, told Army Radio on Monday that this message of friendship to the Iranian people, as opposed to the Islamist regime, is one that Jerusalem has been sending for a long time.
The website, she explained, will promote another opportunity to show the Iranian citizens that “we [Israel] always differentiate between the Iranian nation and the regime.” In fact, she noted, the Iranians themselves say that they are “hostages.”
Articles about desalination and recycling waste-water as well as explanatory videos are already up on the site, Avginesaz said. For those with cellphones, the Ministry has opened a channel on Telegram, and “within hours it already had thousands of members, people who have signaled ‘like’ and have already signed up to be notified of what’s new on it.”
