Israel expanded its campaign against Iran on Wednesday, striking the Asaluyeh gas processing complex, one of the country’s most critical energy facilities.
Iranian state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency reported that gas facilities tied to the South Pars field, the largest natural gas field in the world shared between Iran and Qatar, were attacked by Israeli and American forces.
The South Pars/North Dome field, located in the Persian Gulf, is considered a strategic energy asset, supplying a significant portion of Iran’s domestic gas and playing a central role in global energy markets.
A senior Israeli source familiar with the matter confirmed to Kan News on Wednesday that the strike on the gas infrastructure was carried out in coordination with the U.S. administration.
The Asaluyeh gas processing complex is considered one of Iran’s most vital energy hubs and a cornerstone of its economy.
The strike signals a broadening of Israel’s operations, extending beyond military targets and senior officials to include infrastructure tied to the regime’s economic capabilities.
In the immediate aftermath, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued evacuation warnings for energy facilities across the region, including in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, raising concerns of potential wider repercussions.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry condemned the strike, calling it “a dangerous and irresponsible step” amid the current escalation, particularly given its connection to the South Pars gas field.
Earlier in the day, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz signaled further developments, warning that “significant surprises” were expected across multiple fronts that would escalate the war.
His remarks came as Israeli officials confirmed the elimination of Iran’s intelligence minister, Esmail Khatib, in Tehran, part of ongoing operations targeting the regime’s leadership.
The strike on the Asaluyeh gas processing complex, alongside continued actions against senior figures, underscores an expanding effort to weaken both the regime’s operational capabilities and its strategic assets.
