Israel to revoke residency status of Jerusalem truck terrorist’s family

In an effort to deter terrorists, Israel is taking measures to revoke the residency status of family members of Fadi al Qanbar, who murdered four IDF soldiers this week. 

Israeli authorities are operating to revoke the residency status of 12 family members of the Arab terrorist who rammed his truck into a group of Israeli soldiers on Sunday in Jerusalem, murdering four and wounding 15.

The family was summoned on Wednesday to a meeting at Israel’s Interior Ministry to commence the annulment procedure, but did not show up. They include his wife, his four children and his mother.

The terrorist, Fadi al-Qanbar, hailed from the neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber in Jerusalem, known for violence and terrorism. He was shot and killed by soldiers present at the scene.

Residency status provides the family with access to several services and pensions provided by the State of Israel. Instead, they will receive permits to be present in Israel on behalf of the Israel Coordination and Liaison Office and the Palestinian Authority. Such a move will rescind their right to receive Israeli social benefits.

Family remembers who are currently in Israel on the basis of permits from the Coordination and Liaison Office will be expelled from the country.

Some of al-Qanbar’s family members are suspected of knowing about his intentions to carry out an act of terror.

His sister Shadia lauded the attack. “Praise be to Allah that he became a martyr. It is the most beautiful kind of saintly death,” she exclaimed. “Allah chose him for this martyrdom. Thank God. We are patient and we thank Allah for this.”

Shadia was arrested for incitement, but a judge later ordered she be released, saying her statement was an expression of religiosity rather than support for terrorism.

The family attempted to erect a mourner’s tent outside their home in honor of the terrorist, but were prevented from doing so by the police.

These measures are part of several others taken by the government to penalize the terrorist and deter further potential terrorists, including the demolition of the terrorist’s home.
