Israel fears Trump’s ceasefire deal could force withdrawal from Lebanon security zone

The IDF argues that Hezbollah has repeatedly used periods of reduced fighting to restore capabilities and modify its operational methods.

As Israeli and Lebanese representatives conduct security talks at the Pentagon, senior Israeli military officials are warning that any agreement involving Hezbollah could restrict future military operations and complicate efforts to neutralize the group’s presence in southern Lebanon.

A senior Northern Command official told Kan News that Hezbollah is exerting pressure on Iran to secure a place in any emerging arrangement and is seeking a comprehensive ceasefire.

According to the official, Israeli commanders are concerned that a deal incorporating Hezbollah could bring an end to ongoing air operations and potentially result in US pressure for the IDF to withdraw from the security zone in southern Lebanon.

The concerns are being voiced as diplomatic discussions proceed alongside continued military activity on the ground.

Israeli officials say that despite several ceasefire extensions brokered by the United States and Israel, hostilities have persisted, including daily air operations and cross-border drone activity.

The IDF argues that Hezbollah has repeatedly used periods of reduced fighting to restore capabilities and modify its operational methods.

Military officials say the organization continues to carry out attacks against Israeli forces while benefiting from the limitations imposed by ceasefire frameworks.

The senior Northern Command official told Kan News that “the organization is weak, despite the attacks it is carrying out from deep inside the territory against IDF forces – mainly using explosive drones, UAVs, and rockets.”

“Hezbollah is fighting for its life,” the official added.

Israeli military leaders also contend that operating under arrangements involving Washington and the Lebanese government requires significant restraint.

They fear such limitations could reduce the military’s ability to prevent explosive drone attacks and fully dismantle Hezbollah’s infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the IDF has continued a broad campaign aimed at preventing Hezbollah from rebuilding positions in southern Lebanon.

According to the information provided, Israeli forces are conducting more than 100 strikes each day as part of that effort.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel intends to meet its security goals regardless of the outcome of the current talks, stating that those objectives will be achieved “either through agreement or through renewed fighting.”
