A 25-year-old Israeli woman says she was raped by two Indian men after hitching a ride on a trek in the Himalayas near the popular northern Indian resort town of Manali.
An Israeli woman was reportedly violently assaulted and raped by two Indian men on Sunday while on a trek in the Himalayas.
The 25-year-old was reportedly assaulted by the two near Manali, a popular Indian resort town.
She filed a complaint with the Indian police. She said she was attacked after she took a ride with another six men in a car she believed to be a taxi.
Local police later announced they had arrested some suspects and were searching for the rest of the group.
The Israeli embassy has been informed.
The woman was treated in a hospital after she reported the attack.
This is the third rape incident reported by a foreigner in the past four years in the district.
Reports of rapes of women highlight the persistence of such violence in India despite a public outcry following the December 2012 fatal gang rape of a young woman in New Delhi.
