A gunman opened fire at a nightclub in Fort Myers, Florida on Monday, killing two people and wounding 16 others.
The attack occurred at Club Blu, during what was titled as a “Swimsuit Glow Party” for teens. There were two crime scenes, police said.
Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting, police Capt. Jim Mulligan stated.
It is yet unclear what prompted the attack or what motivated the shooter.
Four victims, including two in intensive care, remain hospitalized. All other victims were treated and released.
The victims’ ages ranged from 12 to 27.
Authorities stated the Fort Myers police and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were “actively canvassing the area looking for other persons who may be involved in this incident.”
Club Blu’s posted on their Facebook page Monday morning a message that said the attack occurred as the club was closing and parents were picking up their children. There was armed security at the event, the post stressed.
“We are deeply sorry for all involved,” the post read. “We tried to give teens what we thought was a safe place to have a good time.”
The incident comes just a month after what was the deadliest shooting in modern US history in which Omar Mateen, an Islamic terrorist, shot and murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others at a nightclub in Orlando.
