Jewish woman hurt in Nice attack dies of wounds

Raymonde Mamane, A 77-year-old Jewish woman who was critically wounded in the Islamic terror attack in Nice, France, last Thursday, has died of her wounds.

Israeli media reported Monday that Mamane became the first Jewish fatality from the Islamic terror attack in Nice, France, in which terrorist Mohamed Bouhlel drove a truck at full speed into a large crowd celebrating Bastille Day, killing 85 and wounding some 200.

Mamane was wounded together with her sister Clara Ben-Shimon, 75, who remains unconscious, on a respirator and in critical condition. Both of her legs have reportedly been amputated.

Israel’s Kikar Hashabbat new site quoted family friends who described her “as a wonderful woman dedicated to her family. The entire community here is in great shock.”

The two sisters were initially reported missing, but were later located in a local hospital.

“Who would believe that we would stand today and eulogize her. This is a great loss to the community and a tremendous shock to us all,” they added.

Several other Jews were wounded in the attack.

Islamic Terror Drives French Jews to Israel

The latest Islamic terror attack is expected to further boost the growing wave of Jewish immigration for France to Israel.

More than 200 French Jews are expected to arrive in Israel on Wednesday on a special flight, the largest group to arrive from France this summer.

The French Jewish community is the largest in Europe and the second-largest in the world outside of Israel, numbering just under half a million Jews.

French Jewish immigration to Israel has surged since the year 2012, breaking records for Aliyah from France and from Western countries more generally, boosted by a surge in anti-Semitism and the advent of Islamic terror on the Continent.

2014 marked the first time in Israel’s history that over 1% of a Western Jewish community made Aliyah in a single year, an achievement repeated in 2015, with the arrival of some 7,800 immigrants from France – the most ever. In total, nearly 10% of the French Jewish community has immigrated to Israel since the year 2000, half in the past five years alone.
