Jews ‘have a different concept of truth,’ Polish priest tells national TV

Jews have “a completely different system of values, a different concept of truth,” said Polish Catholic priest and journalist Henryk Zielinski on national television.

Polish priest Henryk Zielinski, editor-in-chief of the Catholic weekly Idziemy, speaking on Polish national television, said Jews have “a completely different system of values, a different concept of truth,” JTA reported.

“For us, the truth corresponds to facts,” he said.

According to a complaint filed Monday by the Union of Jewish Communities in Poland and reported by JTA, Zielinski gave an anti-Semitic interview on Saturday, telling national public broadcasting station TVP, “For the Jew, truth means something that conforms to his understanding of what’s beneficial. If a Jew is religious, then truth means something God wants.”

For non-religious Jews, Zielinski continued, “the truth is subjective or whatever serves Israel’s interests.”

The interviewer, Michał Karnowski, did not challenge Zielinski’s statements, the complaint added.

The interview occurred amid tensions between Poland and Israel over a new Holocaust law, due to take effect March 1, which prohibits mention of Polish involvement in the Holocaust and phrases such as “Polish death camps.”

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki added fuel to the fire by declaring at the recent Munich Security Conference that along with Poles, “Jewish perpetrators” also bore responsibility for the Holocaust.
