Jews voted overwhelmingly Democrat Tuesday

The percentage of Jews voting Democrat exceeded any other religious group, according to the Pew Research Center’s preliminary findings.

Seventy-nine percent of Jewish voters chose liberal candidates, helping the Democratic party take over the House of Representatives during Tuesday’s election.

The percentage of Jews voting Democrat exceeded any other religious group, according to the Pew Research Center’s preliminary findings.

The Jewish vote in this week’s mid-terms shows a significant change from the 2014 mid-term elections, when only 66 percent of Jewish voters supported Democrats. In the 2016 presidential election, 70 percent voted for Hillary Clinton.

Democrats took over the lower branch of Congress on Tuesday, defeating their Republican counterparts with 223 seats over 197.

In the Senate, the Democrats fell short of taking over the majority by a count of 51 to 44.

Tuesday’s elections saw a strong showing for Jewish candidates. Of 23 Jewish incumbents seeking reelection, all won.

Two Jews won gubernatorial elections, including Democrat Jared Polis, who will become the first Jewish governor of Colorado.

Democratic Senate candidate Jacky Rosen’s victory in Nevada means there will be nine Jewish senators starting in 2019.
