Kamala Harris refuses to reject Gaza genocide accusations against Israel

Former vice president says it is up to the courts to decide whether Israel committed “genocide” in the Gaza Strip during the war against Hamas.

Former Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris refused this week to rule out the possibility that Israel committed genocide in the Gaza Strip during the war against Hamas.

On Sunday, Harris spoke with MSNBC about her recently published memoir, 107 Days.

During the interview, Harris was asked whether she believes President Donald Trump deserves credit for brokering the Gaza peace deal, which this week secured the release of all 20 living Israeli hostages and led to a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Harris avoided referring to Trump by name, acknowledging that credit should be given “where it is due” and mentioning the president after the Qatari and Egyptian governments.

“I don’t think that we should hold credit where it is due,” Harris said, while accusing Israel of using excessive “brutality of force” during its war in Gaza.

“I really do hope it becomes real and that the hostages are out, that Gaza is no longer being treated with such brutality of force, that aid goes in. I commend the people who have been a part of this process. I commend the Qataris, the Egyptians and the president.”

When asked if she agrees with the growing number of Democrats who believe Israel is guilty of genocide in the Gaza Strip, Harris refused to respond directly, saying instead that only a court can determine whether Israel’s actions constitute genocide.

“It is a term of law that a court will decide. But I will tell you that when you look at the number of children that have been killed, the number of innocent civilians that have been killed, the refusal to give aid and support, we should all step back and ask this question and be honest about it, yeah.”
