Kidnapping fears erupt after armed female IDF soldier seen entering Palestinian car

A tense security incident that began Thursday afternoon with fears of a kidnapping in progress in the Gush Etzion area ended hours later in circumstances far removed from the initial alarm.

Large numbers of police and military forces were scrambled to the region after a report came in of an armed IDF soldier who had been seen entering a vehicle bearing Palestinian plates.

Given the severity of the suspected scenario and the immediate concern for the soldier’s safety, officers from the Shai District, working alongside IDF forces, launched a rapid pursuit backed by aerial support in an effort to locate the vehicle before it could cross deeper into Palestinian Authority territory.

The chase came to an end a short time later when police intercepted and stopped the car on Route 375, close to the city of Beitar Illit.

Forces surrounded the vehicle and found the soldier inside, safe and physically unharmed, showing no signs of distress.

It was only during the initial questioning at the scene that the true picture emerged.

Israel Police confirmed that a rapid inquiry established the pair as a couple and that the matter was referred to the Military Police for further handling.

Given the serious breach of protocol involved, the soldier’s personal weapon was confiscated by the forces on scene.

Both the soldier and the driver were then taken together to the nearby police station, where the circumstances of the incident are being further clarified.
