Liberman urged US Secretary of State Tillerson to cut US support for the UN Human Rights Council, in light of its “unacceptable” treatment of Israel.
Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman suggested to US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that the US reconsider its financial support for the United Nations Human Rights Council, as well as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), during a joint meeting on Wednesday.
Liberman said that instead of fulfilling its intended role of fighting real human rights atrocities, “the Human Rights Council deals with demonizing Israel and with efforts to harm it by distorting reality.”
“It is unacceptable that more than 60 percent of the decisions made in the Council are decisions related to Israel, instead of dealing with the situation of human rights in Iran and North Korea, and the mass murder and atrocities taking place in Syria.”
Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon has already called on countries that financially support UNRWA to probe the organization’s alleged ties to the Hamas terrorist organization after two of its employees were discovered to have been elected into the Hamas political bureau.
