Majority of Israelis back continuation of Trump plan in Gaza – poll

Less than a third of Israeli Jews want the IDF to seize control of the remainder of the Gaza Strip without giving the Trump plan a chance to resolve the conflict.

Israelis are not in a rush to resume large-scale military operations in the Gaza Strip, a new poll shows, with a majority preferring to give President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan at least several more months to try to secure the disarmament of Hamas peacefully.

On Monday, the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI) released the results of a poll conducted among 792 Israeli Arabs and Jews between March 2 and March 5, which found that 59% of Israelis want to hold off on resuming the ground campaign in Gaza and to “let Trump’s plan proceed…over the next few months.”

Just over a quarter (26%) say they prefer that the IDF resume fighting, “conquer the remaining territory, and impose Israeli rule.”

Less than a third (31%) of Jews back the conquest of the entire Gaza Strip, with 56% preferring to give the Trump plan a chance to resolve the conflict.

Currently, the IDF controls more than half of the Gaza Strip, with Hamas ruling over the remainder of the coastal enclave.

The Trump administration has demanded that Hamas agree to completely disarm, with reports that the White House and Hamas have been in mediated talks for a staggered demilitarization process in which the terror group would surrender its heavy weapons early on and retain its light arms during an intermediate phase.

The poll also found strong support for Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria, with a majority of Israelis saying they believe the towns contribute to national security.

Among all Israelis, 51% said they agree or somewhat agree that settlements contribute to national security, while 61% of Israeli Jews also agreed or somewhat agreed with that claim.

Just 36% of Israeli Jews said they disagree or somewhat disagree with that assertion, while 78% of Israeli Arabs said they disagree or somewhat disagree.
