MKs warn of Oct. 7-style massacre in Judea and Samaria

MK Avichai Buaron cites claims of 60,000 Palestinian Authority fighters preparing for an attack on Jewish communities.

Two members of the Knesset have sounded the alarm in recent days over the potential for a massacre in Judea and Samaria reminiscent of the Oct. 7 atrocities, urging community leaders to strengthen their preparedness.

Yisrael Beiteinu head Avigdor Liberman, who previously served as defense minister under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, wrote an open letter to the heads of Judea and Samaria regional councils warning that the possibility of a surprise attack and mass slaughter is alarmingly real.

In the letter, sent earlier this week, Liberman said Palestinian Authority police forces are undergoing training resembling specialized army units. He warned that these forces are focusing their resources on gathering intelligence on Israeli army installations and Jewish communities in the region, rather than actively combating terror groups such as Hamas.

Liberman stressed that the Palestinian Authority is engaged in a systematic campaign to incite violence among the Palestinian population toward Israel, “heating up the atmosphere” while simultaneously conducting an international public relations offensive aimed at tarnishing Israel’s reputation on the world stage.

“The objective is clear,” Liberman wrote: to incite an October 7-style attack against Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. He warned such an assault could be carried out by Palestinian Authority police acting as a paramilitary force, while shaping global opinion to place the blame on Israel.

Liberman urged regional council heads to “demand a meeting” with the Shin Bet intelligence agency and to pressure authorities until they are presented with a detailed plan outlining how their communities will be defended and what steps are being taken to protect them.

Separately, during a Knesset speech on Tuesday, Likud MK Avichai Buaron warned that the “Palestinian Authority has trained 60,000 fighters for invasion and attack,” referencing a report from watchdog group Regavim.

Buaron argued that maintaining a strong Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria is essential to preventing another October 7-style massacre, which he said could potentially extend into central Israel.

He also praised residents of Judea and Samaria for their resilience in the face of “daily threats to their lives” by Palestinian terrorists.
