More fighting between Israel and Iran ‘inevitable’ – defense official

Gen. Amir Baram said Operation Rising Lion was an “unequivocal victory” for Israel but not the end of the conflict with Iran.

A senior Israeli military official warned Monday that the war with Iran is not over, stressing that Jerusalem is preparing for additional rounds of conflict with the Islamic Republic.

Major General (res.) Amir Baram, director general of Israel’s Defense Ministry, told a conference in Jerusalem that June’s 12-day war did not mark a permanent end to hostilities between the two countries.

Operation Rising Lion concluded with an unequivocal Israeli victory, yet additional confrontations with Iran are inevitable,” Baram said.

He warned that Tehran, despite suffering a setback, is seeking to rebuild quickly.

“The Iranian regime, operating from a position of strategic humiliation, is massively investing in security infrastructure and pursuing accelerated force-building initiatives,” Baram added.

Both Israeli and Iranian officials have signaled in recent weeks that a renewed military clash between the two countries is only a matter of time.

While President Donald Trump declared that Iran’s nuclear program was “obliterated” by the U.S. strike on the Fordow facility, Israeli officials have hinted that another round of fighting may be imminent.

According to a July Reuters report, Jerusalem remains unsatisfied with the outcome of the recent Iran war and is still pursuing the collapse of the Islamic regime.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly views Iran as “unfinished business” from both a “strategic” and “existential” standpoint and believes the conflict is “far from over,” several Middle Eastern officials told the outlet.

Iranian leaders have echoed that sentiment. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Asharq al-Awsat that “anything is possible, and Tehran is prepared for all circumstances.”

Similarly, Fadahossein Maleki, a member of Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said in July that the war “has not ended, it has only stopped temporarily. There is a real possibility it could begin again at any time.”
