UN’s Albanese pushes antisemitic lies against Israel — again

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese previously justified Hamas’ October 7 massacres as resistance to oppression.

A United Nations official with a long history of antisemitic and anti-Israel remarks accused Israel of using “unconventional weapons” to forcibly displace Gaza residents, making the claim during a press conference in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday.

Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, alleged that Israel’s intensified campaign in Gaza City is aimed not at dismantling Hamas but at rendering the enclave uninhabitable.

“Israel is bombing using unconventional weapons… it is trying to forcibly evacuate Palestinians. Why? This is the last piece of Gaza that needs to be rendered unlivable before advancing the ethnic cleansing of that piece of land,” Albanese told reporters Monday.

She further accused Israel of “destroying entire neighborhoods, remnants of buildings where people were seeking shelter,” arguing this demonstrates an intent to permanently displace Gaza residents.

The remarks come as Albanese faces U.S. sanctions, which could bar her from addressing the UN General Assembly in New York. She has previously justified the October 7 Hamas massacres, claiming they were not antisemitic but an act of resistance to oppression.

The Permanent Mission of Israel to the UN condemned Albanese’s comments, saying that her “numerous statements have showcased her willingness to go to extreme lengths in delegitimization of the State of Israel.”

The mission added that, according to Albanese, “Hamas doesn’t embed itself in civilian infrastructure, doesn’t cynically use civilians as human shields, and generally doesn’t really exist.”

Meanwhile, U.S. officials are signaling they expect Israel to achieve a decisive victory over Hamas despite recent efforts to secure a peaceful end to the conflict.

President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about a potential ceasefire and hostage deal, but Washington remains cautious.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is currently visiting Israel, told reporters in Jerusalem he was not hopeful about a diplomatic solution.

Hamas, he said, is “a terrorist group, a barbaric group, whose stated mission is the destruction of the Jewish state.”

“So we’re not counting on [a diplomatic solution] happening,” Rubio added.
