Muslim country nominates Trump for Nobel Peace, praises ‘stellar statesmanship’

Pakistan has officially put US President Donald Trump’s name forward as a nominee for a Nobel Peace Prize after claiming that he was responsible for brokering peace between Pakistan and India last month.

Pakistan praised Trump for his “pivotal leadership” and “decisive diplomatic intervention” to resolve a crisis involving dozens of border strikes, becoming the most severe conflict between the two nuclear powers since 1971.

Islamabad and New Delhi signed a peace agreement on May 8th even as strikes continued in the Kashmir region, claimed by both countries.

Although Pakistan credits Trump with the ceasefire, India denies that the US played a role and said it did not want to involve a third party.

Nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize on Saturday, Pakistan’s government wrote, “At a moment of heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi.”

“The US president helped in “averting a broader conflict between the two nuclear states that would have had catastrophic consequences for millions of people in the region and beyond,” the statement added.

“This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue.”

In 2021, Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a member of the Norwegian Parliament, nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize following the Abraham Accords, normalizing relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump said the peace deal he brokered between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda should be sufficient to merit a Nobel Prize, but he added that the Nobel committee would never grant him the award “no matter what.”

DRC President Félix Tshisekedi invited the Trump administration to mediate efforts to end the conflict in eastern Congo, where government forces have been battling rebels reportedly supported by Rwanda.

A preliminary peace agreement was reached on Wednesday, with the formal signing anticipated next week in Washington. According to the US State Department, the deal will be signed by the leaders of both nations and witnessed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Trump wrote, “This is a Great Day for Africa and, quite frankly, a Great Day for the World.”

“I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for this,” Trump added, listing other achievements such as “stopping the War between Serbia and Kosovo” and “keeping Peace between Egypt and Ethiopia.”
